1. What is EMS Training?

EMS (Electro Muscle Stimulation) Training is a specialized training that amplifies the natural process to encourage muscles to work harder. This is created by bioelectric impulses that are delivered to your body, through a specially designed training suit containing electrodes.
This helps in developing strength, stamina and improving body shape as it stimulates the muscle contractions which are more intense and strong as compared to conventional training.

2. Is there scientific proof that it works?

Yes, scientific studies by the German Sports University of Cologne (2008), Erlangen-Nuremberg (2009) and the Heart Clinic in Bad Oeynhausen (2010) have shown the effectiveness of EMS Training. Research by Bayreuth University in Germany reported the following results after a six-week training program with EMS.

5. Can EMS training help me to lose weight?

You can burn up to 500 calories each time you train with EMS. EMS training also improves circulation and encourages a better blood supply to the tissues beside the muscles, which is the most effective way of reducing cellulite.

A 20 minute EMS training can reduce body fat by around 4% in the first week 6 weeks and up to 10% over a 12 week period. Yes, you can continue with other forms of training and exercise along with EMS, however, it must be managed carefully and your KICK IT trainer will advise you on the best way to use EMS with your current fitness level.

7. Should EMS Training be done over a long period of time?

Yes, to maintain the performance capacity of your muscles it is important to train regularly and for a long-term period. If you stop exercising for extended periods of time, your muscles will eventually return to their former (pre-training) state.

8. Why is EMS so effective?

EMS is very effective for general muscle buildings and works well when targeting specific areas of the body; such as the buttocks, abdomen or back. Also, it is intensive and fast, since 92% of the muscle fibers are contracted and the deep-lying muscles are also stimulated, thus improving coordination within the muscles and various muscle groups.

9. Does it hurt?

No, the training itself is intense, but the electrical current is low impulse and completely safe. Therefore, the actual feeling is gentle and non-invasive. Body Designs personal trainers will customize the training to suit your needs and not stretch it beyond your capabilities.

10. Is EMS training dangerous?

No. EMS Training amplifies the natural electrical impulses of the muscles, with low frequency electrical stimulation which does not pose any danger whatsoever.

11. Who can use EMS Training?

Anyone over the age of 18 can quickly achieve visible results if they train for twenty minutes a week. This training is not advisable for certain groups who suffer from acute febrile diseases, circulatory disorders and anyone with a heart pacemaker. EMS training should not be used if you’re pregnant or physically not able to train with EMS.

12. How much time can I save training in the KICK IT BODY FITNESS EMS?

One can save 7 hours a week by training in a KICK IT BODY FITNESS instead of other traditional methods. Only 20 minutes at a KICK IT BODY FITNESS session every week, can make a big difference to your body shape and metabolism, as compared to a 60-90 minute session at Conventional training session.

13. What do I need to bring with me and what should I expect from my first session?

Just come as you are!

We provide freshly laundered training suit (you can purchase one if you choose), towel and protein shake before exercising.
Initially, we will spend a few minutes before your first workout or trial session, taking the necessary personal information and talking through what you want to achieve from the training. Therefore, please allow a bit of extra time for this.

At the start of a ‘full membership session’, we will take a record of some key body statistics that will form the basis of your progress chart. So keep extra time for this as well.
Thereafter, you need only 30 minutes – ten for changing and having a drink and twenty for your workout.
